The Nemacolin Energy Institute (NEI) was filed as non-profit 501c3 in 2011, and is presented and generously supported by its sponsors.
Recognizing the significance of the regional shale play in helping America move forward on a path toward energy independence, Joe Hardy, founder of 84 Lumber and Nemacolin Woodlands Resort spurred the creation of the NEI concept to promote energy development while encouraging resource conservation.
The NEI is committed to convening experts, public and private sector leaders so together we can address some of America’s most difficult energy challenges. While the NEI was founded amidst the nation’s shale gas ‘revolution’, the NEI has expanded its programming, and is cultivating evidence-based information for all sources of energy and educating K-12 students about good energy stewardship.
In September 2010, NEI hosted its first event when more than 300 attendees, industry executives and key public officials, packed the Inaugural Marcellus Shale Conference and Golf Invitational at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort. The conference promoted networking and an exchange of ideas concerning the shale gas industry in the five state region of the Marcellus and Utica shale play.
The Hardy family has a strong commitment to development of America’s economic strength and energy independence evidenced in the creation of 84EnergySupply, a key supporter of the Nemacolin Energy Institute.
